BRAZIL – A critical issue for African countries “Human Resources for Health: foundation for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the post-2015 development agenda” was discussed among 2,000 participants from 80 countries at the Third Global Forum on Human Resources for Health (HRH) which took place November 10-13 in Recife, Brazil.

Switzerland – The postgraduate continuing education introduced by the University of Basel has proved successful and attracted many participants according to the university source. In May 2013, the CASB successfully introduced the postgraduate continuing education programme – Certificate of Advanced Studies - in African Affairs and Intercultural Competence.
TUNIS - The Board of the African Development Bank (AfDB) approved the Lake Turkana Transmission Line Delay Partial Risk Guarantee for €20 million, the first of the African Development Fund’s Partial Risk Guarantees (ADF PRG). The ADF PRG is a risk mitigation instrument that covers private lenders and investors against the risk of a possible government failure to meet contractual obligations to a project.
NORWAY – Norway is supporting the African Development Bank’s African Legal Support Facility (ALSF) with a contribution of NOK 30 million (about US $4.9 million), as a core contribution towards the ALSF 2013-2014 work program.
TUNISIA – The African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Government of Djibouti has signed the funding agreements, amounting to US $7.5 million, for a geothermal exploration project in the region of Lake Assal.
DRC – The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has won approval of a $21.5 million grant from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) to jump-start sustainable management of its critically important forest sector to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and strengthen forest governance.
NIGERIA – African Exchange Holdings (AFEX), a pan-African holding company founded by Tony O. Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Nicolas Berggruen, Chairman of Berggruen Holdings, and Jendayi Frazer, President of 50 Ventures, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture to create a pioneering warehouse receipt system that will enable Nigerian farmers and cooperatives to safely store their produce at accredited warehouses.
